Just What Is The Astral Anyway?

Let’s talk about the Astral.

But in doing so, I’m very mindful of your time – you didn’t click this link to read a novel. And you didn’t click it to be presented with bewildering concepts. So let me do my utmost to explain it as quickly and as simply as I can.

First off, imagine a place on earth that has major problems – societal problems, problems with crime or violence or drugs or some combination of them. Then, once you have that image, contrast it with a peaceful village somewhere, with very few problems and a cohesive societal structure – your idea of the perfect home, perhaps.

In the first scenario, you can imagine that day to day life is difficult. A person would likely have to be incredibly self aware to survive such a place. They’d have to be mindful of their neighbours, mindful of gangs, mindful of the areas they simply don’t go to if they want a good life. They’d have to lock their doors, be careful who they associate with, ensure they aren’t stepping on anyone’s toes. This is the real life situation of millions, maybe even billions in our world today. Many experience such a life.

Yet – even in the midst of that, many people live a comfortable life. Not pleasant, perhaps, but they find order within it and a way to survive.

The second scenario is one where a person is carefree, perhaps. They don’t lock their doors, they do as they please, they enjoy peace and happiness without fear of violence. Life is very comfortable and easy. Yet, even in the most beautiful of places, as has been demonstrated time and time again, staggering episodes of violence can occur. An anomaly, perhaps – but one that is present nonetheless.

Is one place bad and the other good? You could possibly argue one of the places is better for the unfolding of the human experience, the material and emotional comforts of life – I certainly would. But could you say one is bad and the other good? Or would it be more fair to say the places are simply different – they have different qualities, different ways of expression.

This is the nature of the Astral planes. They are neither good nor bad – they are just different. Good and bad are represented within them, just as there is bad in the beautiful village and good in the place of tyranny and violence. It is simply life, manifesting via a sequence of laws that finds itself in what we identify as a location. If you wanted to find violence and crime in the beautiful place, you would. And if you wanted to find beauty and wholeness in the place of tyranny, you would. It may not be easy – you might have to work at it – but you’d find it.

People believe there is the ‘physical world’ here, where they are, and then there is the Astral world, out there somewhere. They see it as a dichotomy, or a kind of separation. I’ll grant that it appears this way for many, particular those who have an ‘out of body experience’, as they perceive two very different worlds. But this is a question of perception, not of the Astral planes. For in truth there is no here and there – it is one field of consciousness that presents and expresses through a myriad of forms and layers.

Don’t worry, that’s as technical as I’ll get here today. Or I’ll try to anyway.

But from this perception, of a body here and no body there, people who’ve had ‘out of body’ phenomena often associate it with tremendous fear – they fear, greatly, that something will come and attack their body, or do harm to them in some way whilst they are perceiving the Astral planes. I’m not discounting their perspective, and I think their caution is admirable and to be respected – but this is ultimately a question of perception again. They believe there is danger, and they find the evidence to support the belief.

This is understandable – people can experience terrifying things in such a state – just as they would if they walked into the wrong street in the place of tyranny and violence I mentioned earlier. If that is their entire perspective of that place, then they would most assuredly say it’s a terrible place to be avoided at all costs. But if a person wandered into the most glorious street of the beautiful place I mentioned earlier, they’d find the absolute height of pleasantness, happiness and life.

The Astral planes are a field of reality existing in and around our reality right now – not divorced, not separate, in the same way that the field of electromagnetics or atoms exist in and around us right now. We are it. We exist in and through it. Just one reality, emerging from the field of God. Atoms can be divided, split and manipulated, creating vast disturbance, yes. And the ‘physical world’ can also be altered or changed to create tremendous carnage, through bombs, explosives, accidents.

But atoms can also be brought back into coherence. And the ‘physical world’ can also be bought back into coherence. Life is forever seeking to remedy imbalance, to return to a baseline equilibrium. But if a person’s intent is to generate imbalance, in whatever way they seek to do it, then this is something that is available to them. The same is true for those who seek to restore balance. The Astral planes, like any aspect of Reality, is simply a field that we exist inside of, with its own laws and its own impulses seeking to restore balance.

I hope that wasn’t too technical. They say I’m an expert on Astral experience – I don’t think so, but others do. But I do forget sometimes that whilst very clear to me, these ideas can be overwhelming or beyond relatability for those who’ve not considered them before.

But to extend an olive branch to those who say the Astral planes are dangerous, unhelpful or to be avoided – I would like to agree, at least in some part. I’m not concerned with nasty entities or malevolent spirits that exist there – they do – and I’m as mindful of them as I am a militia with guns in a village oppressing the citizens. Thousands and thousands of hours of refined Astral perception and exploration have shown me, beyond any doubt, that these entities are not worth even a thought. The mere name of God, or Jesus, will hurriedly send them on their way. And even then, you’d have to go out and seek them in the first place to even have contact with them.

So this doesn’t concern me. What does concern me, why I would agree that the Astral planes are generally not helpful to most people, is the opposite reason. It’s because of its beauty, its totality, its immensity of joy and vibrancy and wholeness. When people get glimpses of that, as many have and do, it can become a fascination and even obsession. They want to experience something – they want the ecstasy of witnessing life on those domains of existence.

This is true of anything, as you know. A little bit of chocolate is good for some things – too much and you’ll have problems. A late night here and there, enjoying nice conversation and laughter, is excellent for the emotional heart. But three months of sleepless nights will be catastrophic to the system. When the thing becomes its own Reality, problems arise.

And the Astral planes are a trap, for this reason. A person could (many have) become enthralled and lost in its beauty. They can spend their entire lifetime devoted to it, finding out all kinds of things and perceiving staggering depths of truth and possibility. But this is ultimately not helpful – because we did not come to this body, in whatever way it exists, to become enthralled in the dream we call Reality. We came to wake up from the dream – to realize the truth beneath everything, to see through the maya and to recognize the essence of who and what we really are. The Astral planes, whilst beautiful and displaying the grand vastness of the Creator, present a near endless series of rabbit holes and snares that can keep a person forever enthralled with the dream.

Such people find it profoundly difficult to awaken. They don’t want to awaken. They are supremely entertained by the dream.

This is why I don’t teach how to have Astral experience – I wouldn’t put that on somebody. I’m obsessive by nature. My goal with all of this life is to go home – not to become lost on the stage and the props that are present to me. In that sense I utilise the Astral planes as a tool, as a scientist would when utilising genetic structures or an artist would assembling their paint sets – it isn’t a destination, it isn’t a thing of glorification or devotion. Just a field of Reality, present within and without, but with the capacity to seize attention in ways other fields of Reality cannot do. And, it presents a field where profound capacities of healing, balancing and restoration can be found – hence why I utilise it at all.

Does that help demystify what it is? I hope so. And I hope more than anything I haven’t demeaned or diminished anybody’s perspective here – when a religious person says their mind should be on God and not on the Astral planes – I agree. And when a spiritual person says their endeavours should be on awakening from God’s dream, not spent in the Astral planes – I agree. And when a person says there are frightening things in the Astral planes, I also agree, but would add that this is life in any layer that you find it. If people want to avoid frightening things, then yes, most assuredly, avoid the Astral planes.
